Songwriters usually work behind the scenes. They allow performers to bring their material to music fans around the world. A local singer-songwriter is ready to step out of the shadows and step into the spotlight.
“Brooklyn’s On Fire” is Angela Hunte’s latest single. You may not know his name, but trust us. You certainly know his work.
Angela won a Grammy for writing Jay Z Alicia Keys’ hit, “Empire State of Mind.” Deco caught up with her at the Setai Miami Beach, where she told us all about her work with these two music heavyweights.
Angela Hunte: “You know, if I could put that feeling in a bottle and sell it, I’d be so rich. I wish I could because I want everyone to feel like that.
His main writing strength is his ability to focus on the styles of each particular performer.
Angela Hunte: “Because I’m an impersonator and that’s one of the talents you have to have as a top writer. A top writer is a writer who can write anything.
She wrote for top talents like Rihanna, Diddy and Britney Spears, whom Angela loved.
Angela Hunte: “She was extremely professional, the way she knew the song, she knew the music, she knew the notes, she knew the melodies, like those are the things that make the session flow when someone knows what he does .”
Angela is ready for her moment in the spotlight. His debut album, “Mango”, is slated for release in August. Get ready for a tasty musical stew of styles.
She gets sultry in “Better Without Me” and tackles hip-hop and dance hall in “Brooklyn’s On Fire.”
His blend of island sounds and urban beats comes naturally.
Angela Hunte: “I was born in Brooklyn but grew up in Trinidad and Tobago.”
The Caribbean energy is omnipresent in the new album.
Angela Hunte: “The sounds of Trinidad and Tobago are very infectious, they are strong, they are clear and demanding.
Miami has become Angela’s home. Everything’s going good here.
Angela Hunte: “I’m able to have my Caribbean heritage here, but I’m also able to have a great sense of peace.
