Magical Realism in Creative Writing: A Masterclass with Natasha Pulley | Guardian Master Classes

Writing anything fantastic or speculative usually boils down to a long discussion of a surprisingly ordinary question: what if?

What if there were ghosts that could move through walls? What if a man turned into salt? What if there was a book of true prophecy? These questions form clear starting points and basically the bread of the plot – but character, location and where to start are the meat.

In this masterclass with Natasha PulleyThe Watchmaker of Filigree Street’s Sunday Times bestselling author and creative writing lecturer, you’ll be guided through the strategies that work together to create magical realism, from story planning to execution.

Blending practical writing exercises with theory and discussion, this masterclass will give you the tools and inspiration to turn your ideas into a novel.
